KNOWING THE GOD OF LOVE AND PEACE
“…God Himself is a society…this thing that bewilders the intellect utterly quiets the
heart…For it is not well for God to be alone.” – G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
Chesterton’s insight is a great one: the fact that God is a paradox of oneness in threeness is a balm for our weary hearts which are always on the lookout for good
news. The realization that God is a community of persons opens for us the amazing possibility that there is room for us in the divine embrace. Moses had this confidence in coming before God to worship and the more that God revealed Himself to Moses, the more confident Moses became in His service. May our celebration of Trinity Sunday, which affirms the Most Holy Trinity as the central mystery of faith, lead us to deepest kind of peace which is only truly possible through the knowledge of the living God.
Summer is now upon us. I share a variety of updates and reminders:
+ As the school year wraps up, special prayers and congratulations are due to those graduating from High School or College. May they be blessed as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
+ This past weekend, four new priests were ordained to serve our local church. Two of them have spent time here at Holy Cross: Fr. Kyle Etzel was with us a few summers ago as a seminarian and Fr. William Kratt was our visiting Deacon this past summer. Fr. Ryan Glaser, one of the other newly ordained priests, will be with us for the 9:30am Mass this Sunday as he was asked to be godfather by some of his friends who are parishioners here. A warm welcome to him and congratulations to our newest priests!
+ We welcome Mark McGarry to our parish as our new Facilities Manager. He joins a small but hard-working maintenance and janitorial team. Mark has already hit the ground running in these past couple of weeks as we continue to care for our buildings and grounds and support our parish activities.
+ This coming Tuesday evening, I invite you to come to St. Hedwig for a Holy Hour of Thanksgiving for our Parish Clergy from 6:30-7:30 pm. It is important that we gather in prayer and thanksgiving as a parish. I would love to see a full church and I have had on my heart a great desire to pray fervently for vocations to be raised up from within our parish. Come, let us adore the Lord of the Harvest, and ask Him to send more laborers into His vineyard! There will of course be a social following the Holy Hour and a chance greet Deacon Evander before his departure.
+ Next Sunday, June 11 we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus in the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Falling on the second Sunday of June, our 18th annual NE Eucharistic Procession will take place beginning at 3 pm from Holy Cross Church. The route passes by way of several other NE Churches on our way to the final Benediction at All Saints Church. See more information about parking and buses on p. 7 and plan to join us to give public witness to our faith in the Eucharist. If the walk is too far, consider joining us for the beginning and end of the procession or
somewhere along the way.
+ On Monday, June 5th at 7 pm at the Cathedral of St. Paul, a group of young people from our parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Come, Holy Spirit!
Blessed Trinity Sunday to you all!
~Fr. Howe
