UPCOMING NORDEAST CATHOLIC UNDERGROUNDS

What is a Catholic Underground?

The Catholic Underground was founded in New York City by the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and is a direct response to a call that began with Pope St. John Paul II and was continued by Popes Benedict and Francis. Pope St. John Paul II said that “because the Gospel lives in conversation with culture, and if the Church holds back from the culture, the Gospel itself falls silent. Therefore, we must be fearless in crossing the cultural threshold of the communication and information revolution now taking place.”

Our Nordeast Catholic Underground seeks to bring Catholic culture to the forefront of our society by promoting Catholic artists in and around the Twin Cities. At the campuses of Holy Cross, St. Clement, and St. Hedwig, we aim to embody the Way of Beauty; to emphasize the arts in our liturgies and events.

There are two parts of Nordeast Catholic Underground: Exposition & Presentation

Exposition (7PM-8PM) will be a time of Eucharistic Adoration, with Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours, prayerful music, times of silence, and the availability of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Presentation (8PM-9PM) is the second half of the evening. This will consist of an artistic performance of some kind: either music, theater, film, art, poetry, dance, or some other form of cultural presentation. This is not a time for traditional catechesis or a talk. The Underground presentation will never challenge or undermine the teachings of the Catholic Church. The time of presentation will end with Night Prayer, the  St. Michael the Archangel Prayer, and a hymn to Our Lady.

These evenings are alcohol-free. N/A beverages will be provided. Feel free to bring other beverages to share.

If you - or someone you know - may be interested in participating in the Presentation portion of a Nordeast Catholic Underground, please fill out the form below. In the ‘Message’ section, give a brief explanation of what your artistic presentation is.
